The Home Owners Association selected DMDG to prepare an amenities and open space master plan for the redevelopment of current and potential parks and recreation areas within the Stonebridge Ranch Community. Based on DMDG’s recommendations outlined in the master plan, the board decided their first implementation project would be the redevelopment of an existing Aquatic Center and the development of a new, outdoor Civic Center located in a vacant property adjacent to the Aquatic Center. Our team designed a central plaza where the community can host civic events such as farmers markets, art shows, food truck events, and parties. The space navigates topographical challenges to plan for large gatherings, while weaving in important connections to the existing community-wide trail system. Elements that have been included in this Civic Center include a central paved plaza, a rentable pavilion, food truck parking spaces, and activities such as a playground, and pickle ball courts.
Navigating through a heavily wooded area along a tributary to Panther Creek, Dominion Trail is a key component to linking the City of Frisco city-wide trail system. The 1.4 miles of 12’ wide concrete trail provides access from two large residential subdivisions to both a neighborhood park and an elementary school. The major challenge DMDG was faced with was traversing areas where the creek alignment flowed inconveniently close to some of the adjacent homeowner properties, seemingly closing off the corridor. Our staff worked closely with our design team to propose a viable strategy for completing the trail in this area, with minimal impact to the environment, the creek hydraulics and the neighboring properties. DMDG also assisted the City of Frisco in gaining public support for this open space amenity by making several presentations to the homeowners associations and other stakeholders.
